Now that we’re in the middle of our third national lockdown, many of us are getting tired of seeing the same four walls. For now, there is little we can do about getting out and about, but we can change the scenery! If cabin fever is setting in and your surroundings are getting you down, you may wish to consider making a few changes to your décor. No good at DIY and not feeling flush? Well the good news is that a fresh lick of paint can be applied to any room in your home, it doesn’t cost the earth and it’s the easiest way to achieve a brand new inspiring look!
In this blog, we look at the colours chosen by a few major home decorating brands which are set to be the most fashionable paint colours of the year ahead. Not that you have to follow fashion, but with so many shades available, checking out the fresh 2021 colours might be a good starting point. So if your dining room is looking dreary and your living room needs a little bit of love, some of these shades may be just what you are looking for to brighten up both you and your home!
Dulux – Brave Ground
Experts from iconic paint brand, Dulux, have chosen Brave Ground as their colour for 2021. The paint connoisseur describes the colour as “a bolstering shade that connects back to nature and the simple things”. It’s a warm, earthy natural shade and is perfect with other muted tones or colourful furnishings. This year has certainly provided us all with extra opportunities to explore the outdoors and appreciate what nature has to offer. Dulux adds that the shade “creates a feeling of stability, growth and potential”, making Brave Ground an ideal shade for a home office.
Pantone – Ultimate Grey and Illuminating
Shades of grey and yellow probably made up one of the most popular home décor colour combinations of 2020. Having recently announced both a grey and a yellow shade as their colours of 2021, it would seem that Pantone predicts these colours will remain just as popular this year. Both colours work well independently, but Pantone describes the combination of the two as “a story of colour that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness, with the promise of something sunny and friendly.” The cheerful, Illuminating shade would certainly brighten a living room wall and could be beautifully complemented by furniture painted in Ultimate Grey.
Valspar – Blissful Blue
Valspar has announced Blissful Blue as its colour for 2021. In feng shui terms, the colour blue is believed to attract calm and peaceful energy and is said to promote relaxation and healing, which makes it the perfect colour choice for bedroom walls. Blissful Blue is a delightful pastel shade and is described as being like a ‘beautiful morning mist’. The colour could be combined with crisp white linens and sleek white furniture for a nautical appeal, or neutral beiges and shades of pink for an elegant, but cosy look.
Farrow and Ball – Sap Green
Unlike the other major paint brands, Farrow and Ball do not select one or two shades as their colour(s) of the year. Instead, the boutique paint brand releases a whole palette of shades they expect to see trending in the year ahead. For 2021 their palette includes majestic reds, calming blues and earthy neutrals, our favourite of which is Sap Green. This muted organic shade of green is perfect for those who want to add a subtle touch of colour to smaller spaces such as hallways and box rooms. The colour green is thought to represent fresh energy and new beginnings and after such a challenging 12 months, we could all do with a touch of Sap Green!
Graham & Brown – Epoch
Graham and Brown has chosen Epoch as their Colour of the Year for 2021. The rich and regal plum shade would look magnificent on a feature wall in either a bedroom or a living room. Combine with lighter shades such as lavender or dusky pink for a feminine feel or complement with creams and golds for a more luxurious look. Remember, darker shades can make a room seem smaller than it is so if you’re using Epoch throughout your living space, make sure all areas of the room are well lit.
