“The soft tinkling of your morning alarm is heard in the distance as you stir in your sumptuously comfy king size bed. You draw the duvet in tighter, immersing yourself in the crisp white bed linen, snuggling dreamily into the perfectly plump and consistently sized feather pillows. There is a soft glow and warmth from the sunlight behind the long flowing curtains, perfectly adorning the bed runner and scatter cushions, and as you survey your room, you feel a sense of calm. The usual clutter is nowhere to be seen. Tidy dressing table tops, and stationery is organised neatly on the desk.” And as you squint to focus more clearly, you realise that most unfortunately it was all but a dream…!
Many of us daydream about bringing the hotel feel and look into our homes, but in fact the reality’s easier to achieve than you may think.
Bed Heaven

What is one of the first things you notice when you enter your bedroom at a hotel? Of course it’s the bed! It’s the most important feature and is usually the focal point of any hotel bedroom. You long for it to be large and comfy and a little bit fancier than yours at home! In our bedroom we have a lovely Queen sized bed; perfect for this Princess – large enough for me to star fish – a key factor when buying a bed, don’t you agree?
Whatever the size of bed or space you have, make your bed look inviting and spectacular, much like your expectations of a hotel bed. You can run with this theme for your guest bedroom/s too, making them feel equally “hotel-ified”.
Luxury Linen and Bedding
Be sure to adorn your beautiful bed with luxurious linen. Hotels generally opt for white, which we also recommend to give that regal hotel feel, and linen made from luxury fabrics, and threads such as Egyptian cotton, will give you that superior feeling.
Utilising a bed runner and matching scatter cushions in a striking two-tone colour will provide a dazzling contrast to the brilliant white bed linen, making your bed stand out even more, accentuating it as a feature piece in your room, much like those found in specific Executive Bedrooms at The Kimberley Hotel
As an alternative to a runner, how about a beautifully handmade bedspread? Reaching across the bed and pillows, down to the floor on each side, bedspreads conceal the bedding and drawer storage below. The clean lines are visually appealing and the room looks instantly de-cluttered and more hotel-like.
Pillows should be matching and of the same size and firmness/softness. Plumped to the highest degree, pillows must look fresh and smooth and all-inviting!
Décor and Furnishings

However you choose to decorate your room, make sure you keep the design consistent and don’t overdo it. Perhaps pick the main wall behind your bed as a feature patterned wall and the rest a subtle shade to co-ordinate with your linens. Furnishings should be minimal so as not to look cluttered, and fitted furniture is preferable, providing a multitude of options for storage space. You can talk to furniture designers Hartleys Bedrooms to see how they can help transform your bedroom and living space.
Clutter
Keep your desktops/dressing table free from clutter and wake up feeling calm and refreshed. Utilise storage space and move unnecessary clutter into drawers or into the bin; you’ve hoarded it long enough! Your bedroom is for relaxing and sleeping – a given for any hotel bedroom. It really is true what they say – tidy house (tidy bedroom in this case), tidy mind!
Finishing Touches
It’s the attention to detail you often notice when staying in a hotel. We talked earlier about having guests over to stay at your home. They too can feel like they’ve experienced a stay at a plush hotel when they come to visit you. Just a few small touches such as chocolates on their pillows, towels at the bottom of their (turned down) bed, slippers and a robe if you’re feeling really lavish, fresh flowers, a selection of reading material and our favourites – a welcome basket and a framed picture of your WiFi password!
We hope you enjoy experimenting with your own space and feel inspired to bring the hotel look and feel to your bedroom. And of course if you’d like to sample the real thing, we’d be delighted to see you at The Kimberley Hotel in Harrogate!
